Boryviter Team Holds Inaugural Meeting of Military Analysts Community

On 29 August, Boryviter’s analytical team held the first meeting of a community of interest for Lessons Learned analysts. The community was established under the LLDDE-U project (Lessons Learned in Dynamic Defence Environment of Ukraine) and is intended to serve as a platform for horizontal cooperation among specialists.

Lessons Learned (LL) requires a constant exchange of information between those who collect data, analyse it, and turn it into a basis for decision-making.

Horizontal cooperation helps align methodologies, make existing work visible, and avoid duplication of effort. This is exactly why communities of interest are being created.

What Participants Discussed

The meeting brought together specialists who study and analyse military experience. Participants presented their areas of work and discussed:

  • the role of analysis in the Lessons Learned system;
  • approaches to analysis and the training of analysts;
  • methodological alignment;
  • the development of analytical tools and the Lessons Learned Portal;
  • further cooperation within the community.

In a separate session, participants worked on a shared map of analytical capability.

Analysis as a Standalone Capability

“For three years, we have been building a lessons learned capability, and each time we become more convinced that the key step is analysis. Everything else either leads up to it or follows from it. We believe analysis should become a capability in its own right — with its own methodology, positions, people, and product.
The community of interest is the first working hub in a network of decentralised analytical groups across various units of the Security and Defence Forces, which we are building under LLDDE-U. It enables specialists to find each other faster, exchange the data they need, and synchronise their work.” Pavlo Musiienko, Head of the Analytical Department at Boryviter

What’s Next

The inaugural meeting marked the start of the community’s regular work. Participants defined further areas of cooperation and agreed on regular meetings and joint work on shared tasks.

Developing such professional connections is one element of a system in which experience moves faster from collection and analysis to the decisions and changes the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine need.
