About the Centre

The Boryviter Centre of Excellence is a premier independent Ukrainian defence institution operating at the intersection of raw battlefield reality and high-level military doctrine. We unite combat-tested expertise, advanced analytics, and tactical innovation to forge defence solutions that keep Ukraine and Europe a step ahead of emerging threats.

Scaling to Meet the Threat

Boryviter was established in April 2022 as an immediate operational response to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. As the Ukrainian Defence Forces rapidly expanded from 250,000 to over a million personnel, and multinational training missions were forced to withdraw, the military faced a critical void. The armed forces required immediate, decentralised, and highly adaptive training under the constant threat of missile strikes.

What began as a highly agile military school focused on immediate tactical survival has systematically evolved. By early 2024, having trained tens of thousands of personnel, the organisation formally transitioned into a comprehensive Centre of Excellence. Today, we do not merely instruct. We analyse combat data, formulate doctrines, test emerging technologies, and build self-sustaining capabilities directly within state military structures.

An Agile Operational Model

Our effectiveness is rooted in our unique operational architecture. Boryviter functions as an agile integrator and an expert bridge connecting two distinct military realities.

Through a bottom-up approach, our Subject-Matter Experts operate in continuous, direct contact with frontline combat units, gathering unfiltered realities regarding adversarial tactics and equipment vulnerabilities directly from the zero line.

Simultaneously, we drive top-down institutionalisation through deep coordination with the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This allows us to translate raw data into validated Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs), ensuring that national defence policies are driven by immediate battlefield realities.

Crucially, we maintain absolute vendor-neutrality. We understand that advanced hardware is merely a piece of metal if it is not properly integrated into a functional system. Boryviter evaluates and integrates technologies based strictly on combat survivability and lethality, independent of commercial affiliations.

A Catalyst for European Security

Ukraine is not a buffer zone. It is an integral, highly experienced component of the European security architecture. Boryviter actively shapes the future of collective defence through deep international interoperability.

We systematically collaborate with NATO institutions, including the Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) and the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC), aligning Ukrainian combat adaptation with Alliance capability development. Furthermore, Boryviter serves as the official representative of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) in Ukraine, developing and delivering joint courses for EU military and civilian officials.

The Boryviter Identity

In Ukrainian, Boryviter refers to the Common Kestrel—a highly adaptable bird of prey known for its ability to hover stationary against strong headwinds before striking. It translates literally to "fighting the wind".

This reflects our operational philosophy of maintaining absolute stability, clarity, and precision in the face of overwhelming turbulence. Within the military, the Boryviter patch is a recognised symbol of tactical excellence, earned with pride by personnel prior to combat deployment.
